How we use AI

Last updated: 21 October 2026

The short version

Every Breadbox project is led by people. We believe in the art and craft of filmmaking, and use AI-assisted tools to speed up the technical side of the job so our editors can spend more time on the creative side.

We’re not against AI. We just believe in using it thoughtfully, ethically and transparently.

The kind of AI you might not notice (and we like)

A lot of standard editing software now has AI built in. These are tools we use every day: scene detection, transcription and text-based editing, footage search, masking and rotoscoping, tracking, stabilisation, auto-reframing for different formats, colour matching, blemish removal, background removal, speech enhancement and noise reduction, remixing and stem separation for audio, music ducking, frame interpolation for slow motion, and upscaling and restoration of older footage.

Outside the edit, we also use AI-assisted tools for things like transcribing meetings, organising notes, preparing action points, research and everyday admin.

These tools are part of our normal workflow and don’t require separate client approval.

Your footage and documents are treated with care

We use trusted professional tools, including AI-assisted features, to help us manage projects, transcribe recordings, organise information and edit content. Some of these tools process material in the cloud as part of our normal workflow.

We take client confidentiality seriously and make considered choices about the tools we use. We do not knowingly allow client material to be used to train general-purpose AI models, and we use appropriate privacy and security settings when processing your content.

Routine AI-assisted processing is part of how we work and doesn’t require separate approval, unless we’ve agreed otherwise with you.

AI voices

We always prefer real voices. Occasionally, we may use AI tools to correct a minor word or line in an existing recording, but only with the client’s express permission and the written consent of the person whose voice is being recreated.

We don’t use AI-generated voices to replace voiceover artists or performers without their explicit agreement.

Protecting our voiceover artists

We work with talented voiceover artists, and protecting their voices and livelihoods matters to us.

Clients must not upload or submit recordings of voiceover artists supplied by Breadbox Studios to AI voice tools, or use those recordings to clone, replicate, synthesise, modify or recreate their voices, including for minor corrections, without prior written permission from both Breadbox Studios and the individual artist.

This restriction applies to raw recordings, extracts and voice performances contained within final deliverables, including after the project has ended.

What we don’t do

We don’t create synthetic people or faces and pass them off as real. We don’t clone anyone’s voice without their written consent, and we don’t use generative AI to create substantial new content for a client’s project without discussing and agreeing it with them first.

We won’t knowingly use AI tools in ways that infringe the rights of performers, creators or other third parties.

Human-made, first and foremost

We believe in the art and craft of filmmaking. Our productions are led by real people, and we’ll always prioritise human creativity, talent and expertise.

We may use generative AI for internal concepts, pitches, storyboards and creative development.

We’re also open to exploring fully AI-generated content where it’s appropriate for a project. However, we will only produce fully AI-generated work intended for public release with the client’s express agreement, and it must be clearly labelled as AI-generated.

We won’t present fully AI-generated work as traditionally filmed or human-created.

Small fixes

We sometimes use AI-assisted and generative tools for minor technical or creative fixes, such as extending or tidying backgrounds, removing unwanted objects or sensitive information, improving audio, or occasionally generating small sound effects.

These tools are part of our normal post-production workflow and don’t require separate client approval, provided they don’t materially change the meaning of a scene, someone’s appearance or what a person appears to have said.

Always a human edit

A human editor works on every cut, from first assembly to final delivery. AI is a tool in our process, not a replacement for creative judgement.

Keeping you informed

If we propose using generative AI to create substantial new content for your project, such as synthetic people, voices, scenes or other significant creative elements, we’ll discuss it with you and get your agreement first.

Routine AI-assisted editing and minor fixes don’t require separate approval. Where a finished piece contains substantial AI-generated content, we’ll agree any appropriate disclosure or labelling with you, taking account of applicable requirements.

Questions

If you’d like to know which tools we’d use on your project, just ask.

This policy forms part of our Terms of Service (clause 6.7). Where a signed Client Agreement sets out different requirements, that agreement takes precedence.
